Do you love the track in August? If you live close to the Capital District you already know how lucky you are. People from around the world come to Saratoga for not only the racing but the whole atmosphere. Every year NYRA does a few things to enhance it's old time charm. This season more big screen televisions have been installed in the backstretch and a needed overhaul for the bathrooms took place. NYRA wants to improve the customers experience this season adding 750 new HDTV's throughout the track. 500 will be in the back yard and 250 throughout the grandstand and clubhouse. Large video walls will be in the paddock and close to the carousel. 125 new picnic tables will be in the back yard areas, a new Trackus system will be in place so people can track the horses throughout the race. An expanded kids area will be designated so they can touch the horses and learn about them, a larger wi-fi area has been enabled so if your bringing your ipad you will have no problems this season. The 150th year was a huge success but the attendance was lower then the year before with a drop of 3%.
If your like many the track is definately the summer place to be, you don't have to be a gambler to enjoy the richness of this historic place. Ever since I was young my family has brought me here and now you could say I'm addicted. The air smells better, the beer tastes better and well of course the horses-they are beautiful. Even if you like to people watch this is the place. It's the oldest thoroughbred track in the country but it's maintained exquisitely by NYRA. Every year you will see minor changes which are fan friendly, the atmosphere is something different. You can rent lawn chairs this season and picnic tables, so if you love the travers stakes day get your order in early! Saratoga is the August place to be! You don't have to have a lot of money, come on up to the most beautiful track in the country and you will be pleasantly surprised!
